Celebrating 75 Years of Success at FAA's Annual Conference!
Industry professionals and suppliers from the Sunshine State and beyond came together at the stunning World Equestrian Center in Ocala from June 9-12 to commemorate the 75th Anniversary Annual Conference of the Florida Attractions Association. The event featured a record number of general sessions, breakout sessions, speakers, and educational content.
The general sessions addressed important topics such as organizational change, the future of Florida's transportation infrastructure, and innovative approaches to hospitality. Attendees had access to over 33 hours of educational content, providing valuable insights and knowledge.
During each General Session, one of the more “seasoned” FAA members shared a brief, personal memory of their FAA experience. These stories provided historic context to the unique FAA culture we experience today.
Throughout the conference, Board Members provided an update on the FAA’s new strategic plan and the goals established by the Board during their August 2023 retreat.
Networking opportunities were expanded, allowing attractions members and industry suppliers more time to connect and discuss products and services.
Chair Cindy Stavely presented the Chairman’s Annual Report during our Celebration Breakfast. Three outstanding members were recognized for their contributions. Sonny Flynn received the Chairman's Award for her resilience in overcoming a tragic fire at her attraction. John Penney of BlackDog Advertising was named Outstanding Associate Member of the Year for his ongoing support of the FAA. Cameron O'Connell of ZooTampa at Lowry Park was honored as the Outstanding Attraction Member of the Year for his significant contributions to the association's success.
The conference also celebrated Ocala – “Horse Capital of the World" and Florida's rich cowboy heritage. An evening of networking at a local farm, complete with barbeque, country music, and a picturesque view of grazing horses, was a highlight of the event.
Southwest Airlines surprised attendees with a generous giveaway, awarding every participant with a $100 gift card. The final evening paid tribute to FAA founding member Silver Springs, as conference attendees explored the gardens, spied on wild monkeys, cruised the spring in glass-bottom boats and enjoyed the scenic surroundings.
Prior to the Passing of the Historic FAA Gavel, Outgoing Chair Cindy Stavely (St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum) and incoming Chair Dan Donovan (Universal Destinations & Experiences) shared a message of hope and optimism for our industry as they ushered out the old FAA logo that has served us for the past 13 years. With a montage of the FAA logos through our 75 years, the refreshed, contemporary new FAA logo was revealed. More than figurative, the logo symbolizes the excitement and enthusiasm that lies ahead for the FAA.
Thank you to all of our members who participated in the conference. We are all industry pioneers, forging through uncharted times as we press on to new frontiers.
